In observance of Labor Day, most City facilities will be closed on Monday, September 7, with the exception of the following:
  • Miniature Golf Course: open Noon to 8 p.m.
  • Water Park: open to Residents/Aquatics Members ONLY: 8:30 to 11 a.m. for lap swimming by reservation only, Noon to 5 p.m. for open swim.
  • Police Department Administrative Offices: lobby hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., phones monitored from 5 to 9 p.m.

A Virtual Salute replaces this year's Labor Day Parade. A retrospective video celebrating the history of the Parade will be available on the Gaithersburg Special Events Facebook page and on the City's  YouTube channel on September 7. The virtual celebration will also include a "Salute to Everyday Working Heroes," featuring videos from our FunZone participants sharing messages about their personal heroes. The videos will be posted throughout Labor Day weekend on FacebookTwitter and Instagram. Share examples of your own Everyday Working Heroes using #GburgHeroes. A special "Let's Cook@Casey" recipe video will be available on the Casey Community Center Facebook page during Labor Day Weekend as well.

The Water Park is staying open for residents and aquatics members after Labor Day weekend this year. Through September 20, enjoy lap swimming by reservation only Monday through Thursday from 4 to 6:30 p.m., and open swim Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from Noon to 7 p.m. The indoor Aquatic Center remains closed until further notice.

The Miniature Golf Course will have additional fall hours through October 31, open Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m. and weekends Noon to 8 p.m.

If you would prefer not to vote in person on Election Day, November 3, you can visit the Voter Registration and Mail-in Ballot Request page on the Maryland State Board of Elections website to request a mail-in ballot. The site offers easy, step by step instructions. You must provide your complete information so they can verify your voter registration before mailing you a ballot. It is recommended that you vote as soon as possible once you receive your ballot. Postage is prepaid, so you can return it by mail, or you can take it an official Board of Elections drop box. Click here for the location of drop boxes that will be available. DO NOT wait until Election Day. Request your mail-in-ballot EARLY. It's important now more than ever.

I like the idea of swimming some laps at the Water Park, then perhaps watching the kids have fun in the park for the rest of the day!

Hello Roy - quickly glancing at your city of Gaithersburg Maryland Labor Day 2020 announcement has me thinking of miniature golf.  I can't say I remember the last time I played.

I don't know(but think not) if such activity is a part of the Los Angeles area agenda this weekend but with temps in the 100 plus range in many areas, I imagine that's not going to be a choice anyway.    Enjoy the holiday.

Roy, nice to know what is open, and what is not for the City of Gaithersburg.

I believe you and the Chef are staying close to home this weekend. We are too. It just makes sense. We are fortunate to enjoy being at home - it sure helps. D

Making plans for Labor Day? Choose outdoor activities and stay in your local area. Wear a mask, stay at least 6 feet apart, and wash your hands often to help you and others stay healthy. #MasksOnMaryland

Do your part to help slow the spread of COVID-19 this Labor Day weekend. If you go to a park, beach, event or gathering, be sure to:
• Stay at least six feet from others.
• Avoid crowded areas.
• Wear a mask to protect yourself and others.
• Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
• Bring hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol to use if soap and water are not available.

I see a few signs that we are trying to open more things up at a measured pace here in Sacramento.

Roy, It's good that many places will be open, as long as keeping social distancing in mind at all times...
