Book Recommendation: The Bookseller by Mark Pryor

The Bookseller (2012) is the first book in the Hugo Marston series of crime fiction novels by Mark Pryor. The author was raised in England and educated in the United States at the University of North Carolina and the law school at Duke University.  He serves as a prosecutor in Austin, Texas. I enjoyed this book and recommend it for your reading list. Click on the links to learn more about the author and his books. There are nine books in the Hugo Marston series and two books in the Hollow Man series set in Austin.

THE BOOKSELLER was his first mystery novel and upon release was Library Journal's Debut of the Month with a starred review. RT Book Reviews called it "a fantastic debut!" and gave it 4 and 1/2 stars, and listed it as an "unputdownable mystery."

Goodreads Review of The Bookseller

Max—an elderly Paris bookstall owner—is abducted at gunpoint. His friend, Hugo Marston, head of security at the US embassy, looks on helplessly, powerless to do anything to stop the kidnapper. Marston launches a search, enlisting the help of semiretired CIA agent Tom Green. Their investigation reveals that Max was a Holocaust survivor and later became a Nazi hunter. Is his disappearance somehow tied to his grim history, or even to the mysterious old books he sold? On the streets of Paris, tensions are rising as rival drug gangs engage in violent turf wars. Before long, other booksellers start to disappear, their bodies found floating in the Seine. Though the police are not interested in his opinion, Marston is convinced the hostilities have something to do with the murders of these bouquinistes. Then he himself becomes a target of the unknown assassins. With Tom by his side, Marston finally puts the pieces of the puzzle together, connecting the past with the present and leading the two men, quite literally, to the enemy's lair. Just as the killer intended.

Good Morning, Roy Kelley - Mark Pryor who resides in Austin, TX  has a fascinating background. I wonder if he's any relation to Joe Pryor

Good morning Roy. Will have to give this author some thought once I complete the books of James Grippando. Enjoy your day!

Love the premise of this story-line, Roy. And anything set in Paris wil get my attention.

Both Ron and I loved his books, we read each and everyone of them.  I don't know if he has released any since the last one he wrote.  He captures the essence of Paris...It feels like you are there with Hugo.

Nina Hollander I highly recommend his books
