Grocery Stores Offering “Seniors-Only” Shopping Hours

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich announced a new program to help protect seniors as they shop for groceries during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As of Thursday, March 19, four local grocery stores and two national store chains will reserve specific hours for seniors only, allowing them to shop among a smaller group of people to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection.

Yes, this is a good idea Roy Kelley and doing that in Arizona also. Everyone needs more 'sheltering in place" and hunkering down ideas. Jeff

Good morning, Roy Kelley I did that once and never again!!!!!!!!!  it was all men in their 80's and no one knows how to navigate a shopping carriage and shop, too!!!!  no offense.... it's safer being with a younger crowd....but the best source is amazon for paper products.... the butcher for meats.... he'll have them all cut in advance with a phone call.... credit card over the phone....and I'm in and out quickly....NO MORE SENIOR SHOPPING FOR ME...

Good morning Roy. Our closest grocery store has reserved Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7 to 9am for seniors only! Enjoy your day!

Thaks for posting Roy!

Its more important now than ever to shelter the senior citizens from exposure to this deadly virus and also give them a chance to get their hand on those items in demand before others get their hands on them.

Hello Roy - we have this in our area as well and I initially thought of it as a good idea until others provided me with some additional insight.  Perhaps it is another case of unintended consequences.  Taking care of our most vulnerable population segments demand a thoughtful plan.  This is uncharted territory.  Be safe.

I took my Dad to one of these grocery stores for the special hours but it appeared to be open to anyone since there were not just seniors in there shopping.  It wasn't crowded though, so it wasn't a big deal.

Hi Roy... we've got a number of stores in our area, as well, that are offering seniors only hours. But they are typically very early in the day... so I'm wondering how many people really take advantage.

Senior Shopping: Harris Teeter is designating Monday and Thursday mornings from 6am to 7am as senior shopping hours for shoppers aged 60 and over.

This will go into effect Monday, March 23 and will continue until further notice.

To further enhance our commitment to protecting our senior shoppers, Harris Teeter will designate ExpressLane Online Shopping pick-up times from 9am to 2pm for seniors only every Thursday until further notice AND will waive the $4.95 fee & offer $5 delivery for seniors during these times.

This will allow our senior shoppers to take advantage of their 5% Senior Club discount, and it will provide a genuine opportunity for our senior shoppers to purchase what they need while practicing the CDC’s recommended social distancing guidelines.

Hi Roy- we have several stores offering senior hours here too. I tried our local store's curb-side service using an app they have. If you're willing to wait a few days it's a good service but I prefer to pick out my own groceries.
