Gaithersburg Winter Weather: Are You Ready?

OK. We got a little bit of snow, but more is undoubtedly coming. Prepare now and visit our Snow Removal page on the City's website for insights into dealing with winter weather.

Service Requests
Please direct any and all snow-related concerns to snow@gaithersburgmd.gov. During significant storms this e-mail box will be monitored by Public Works personnel. Having a single place for all comments, suggestions and concerns (compliments welcome, too!) will help us address issues more efficiently. Stay on top of developments by regularly visiting our website and following us on Facebook and Twitter.

Who Maintains Your Road?
Having a Gaithersburg mailing address doesn't necessarily mean you live within our corporate boundaries. Click here to see if you do. Also, many roads within our boundaries are maintained by Montgomery County or the State of Maryland. Click here to find out which agency maintains your road and how to contact them. Note that developers maintain roads in some of our newer communities until they're officially turned over to us. Contact your HOA in those instances.

Snow Emergency Routes
Cars parked on Snow Emergency Routes during declared Snow Emergencies are subject to ticketing and towing. We try to announce the Snow Emergency as far in advance as practical, allowing residents time to move their vehicles before it takes effect. If a storm is predicted, please move your car to allow for more effective snow plowing.

Recycling Pickup during Storms
Depending on the severity of the storm, recycling and bulk pick-up collection might be suspended to allow our road crews to do their jobs. Sign up for Recycle Coach notifications and you'll get the latest information about whether or not we'll be collecting, and if not, when we'll be by.

There is a lot more information on our Snow Removal page, including road priorities, tips for effective shoveling, requirements for snow removal from sidewalks, and winter weather preparedness advice. Get ready. Winter's here!

Roy, it is that time of year, and nice to know if the details have changed from previous years.  Hope you don't get much.

HI Roy Kelley,

Some people will undoubtedly overlook this very informative post until it is too late but it is your ability to be on top for those who realize the importance. During the rare Sedona snow we experienced, our city published the snow removal schedule in our local paper. Snow removal or clearing is not something normal for us.

Currently, we are experiencing light fog.  With the sun coming up, it looks mystical.
