Exchange Zones for Online Transactions in Montgomery County, Maryland

Exchange Zones for Online Transactions in Montgomery County, Maryland

The Montgomery County Department of Police has designated Exchange Zones for residents to complete online transactions. These Exchange Zones are located at each of the six police district station’s lobbies and parking lots (with the exception of the Second District parking lot):

When selling or purchasing items from an unknown person, the Montgomery County Department of Police offers the following safety tips:

* Always meet the buyer or seller at an exchange zone that
is well populated, well lit, and preferably at a designated
police exchange zone.

* Tell a friend or family member where you’re going to meet
someone and when possible, take a friend with you.
Inform the buyer/seller that you will not be alone.

* Trust your instincts – if it sounds like a scam or too good
to be true, it probably is.

* Do not invite strangers into your home.

* Never give out any personal or financial information.
This Exchange Zone program is being implemented to
help reduce and deter crimes such as theft, robbery, and
fraud.

Please note that Montgomery County Police employees will not participate in transactions. However, parties are encouraged to call 9-1-1 if a crime occurs.

Good morning, Roy Kelley every police dept should take a page out of the Montgomery Police Dept book.... that's a great courtesy and protective measure to provide for residents....

Exchange zones are likely to save many from tragedy that can come from on-line transactions.

Great idea Roy Kelley . I'm going to pass this on to my friend Jason, Chief of Police in Minot ND.

Roy, what a great concept, I need to look and see if Fairfax County has it. This is something every police department should offer, so many lives could be saved from it.

If your home community does not yet have exchange zones, this is an idea that you may wish to promote.

This is a really good idea, I wonder if they have this sort of thing in my area, I will have to look around.
