ActiveRain Practices: Comment Reciprocation

There are no requirements to leave comments on blogs as you view them but many members have found that you can build long term relationships with other members by practicing comment reciprocation. When someone makes a comment on one of my blogs, I try to leave a comment on one of their blogs if they have a current blog posted.

Sometimes, due to high volume or time limitations, complete reciprocation is not possible but it pays to make reciprocation a habit. If you have not practiced reciprocation, I encourage you to give it a try. While you are paying it forward, take an extra moment to 'like' the blogs as you view them.

Thamks Mr. Roy, I do try to reciprocate with most of not all that comment on my posts.

Sometimes "life" doesn't allow me the time to do so.  It was a habit I was in when I started her because I noticed people doing it.  But in 2008 business was slow and less people where here.  I don't think 99,000 people where yet members and many of them not around.  But I try to comment back when time allows.

This is a wonderful example Roy Kelley of ways to establish long term relationships with other members

Roy Kelley I have a loose rule of thumb I've been trying to follow: 1/3 reciprocal conversations, 1/3 conversations to people I've got some relationship with, regardless of whether I think it will be reciprocal or not, 1/3 to people I've never responded to/seen before, every time I get on AR. Of course, do I get on AR with any regularity whatsoever...

Roy, sad to see less and less interaction here these days.   I always respond to every comment left on my posts.  (unless you have not written a post, or cannot find one I have not commented on in a long time.)

Roy, there are givers and then there are takers, and some just do not care... I have always subscribed to this theory and so glad I am not the only one preaching, nice to see others preach too...Endr

Great post, Roy. People often ask why no one engages with them... the answer as often as not can be traced back to the fact that they don't engage with anyone themselves.

Roy, you are always wonderful about reciprocating. Building relationships are such a big part of the Rain and we have to give before we take.

Good morning Roy.  I try to reciprocate for everyone that leaves a comment on my posts.  As I'm sure you know.

Hi Roy- I try hard to respond to comments on left on my posts as well as reciprocate by commenting on theirs. I don't always succeed but do everything I can to interact with the other members.

Roy Kelley - Good message! It's a practice I started long ago but there are days when business takes over and I can't get there. My apologies to you and those I didn't get around to comment on but I try my best to get there as soon as I can.

You're so good at it, Roy! I get overwhelmed with work and 'life' and am not religious about it...Lord knows I try though! I do need to get better at reciprocation though, for sure!

Good morning,  Roy Kelley comment reciprication is proper etiquette with blogging.... often we are so buried with work, we fail to follow that etiquette.... but when we can, we do...

Hi Roy Kelley You are probably the best on AR  with this. You ALWAYS reciprocate "comments" and it is greatly appreciated.

Comment reciprocation is ideal when you can file the comments the right way. Sometimes on my mobile, I can get a little screwy.

I need to be better at reciprocating on other's posts. I always try to comment on their comments, but I don't always reciprocate on their posts.

I abide by the policy of comment reciprocation. I may not comment on their comments, but I try to visit their blog and comment on one of their posts. (Whew). I've made some great friends this way, plus I've been able to glean lots of information on a myriad of topics.

Hi Roy

I try to reciprocate as much as I can, and find that many people do the same, but I'm far from consistent. I tend not to reciprocate the copy and paste comments and certainly not the spam ones.
