Maryland Blogger: Washington Monument State Park

Washington Monument State Park

Washington Monument State Park

I am sure you are familiar with the Washington Monument in Washington, DC. However, you may not be familiar with the first completed monument located in Maryland.

Located atop South Mountain, Washington Monument State Park is named for the first completed monument dedicated to the memory of George Washington. The Washington Monument is a rugged stone tower that was initially erected by the citizens of Boonsboro in 1827. You should add this destination to your list of places to visit in Maryland.

Good morning Roy. Being a midwest guy who has spent no time on the east coast had no clue. Thanks! Enjoy your day!

This is the first I have heard of that monument erected a mere 50 years after the Revolution.  Very interesting!
