Photowalking in Kentlands, Gaithersburg, Maryland

Real estate professionals should really know about the communities in which they live and work.  One way to know what is happening is to get out and walk through the neighborhoods on a regular basis.  The exercise is good for all of us and the chances are that we will meet some people and have the opportunity to discuss our favorite topic, real estate.

I like to walk through Kentlands and Lakelands in Gaithersburg with my camera in hand.  When you are taking pictures, it is very likely that the residents will speak with you and that is a very simple way to network on a very local basis.  My goals are to get some exercise and escape from the problems of the moment by focusing my attention on the colors of the season.  Any business contacts become a bonus.

If you need a challenge, I challenge you to walk through your own neighborhood and record the images of the season.

Beautiful photos, Roy... couldn't take my eyes off of the pink rose... wouldn't mind a huge bouquet of them in my home right now!

Good morning,  Roy --- knowing our markets intimately is very smart. Knowledge does make a difference.

The Gaithersburg emails on the local farmers' markets include the recipe of the week.

Recipe of the Week:

Acorn Squash Soup with Kale

Ingredients
  • 4 strips bacon (4 ounces), cut crosswise into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1/2 pound kale, thick stems removed, leaves finely chopped (about 8 cups)
  • Coarse salt and ground pepper
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cups acorn squash puree

Directions
  1. Cook bacon in a large saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until crisp, 4 to 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer bacon to a paper-towel-lined plate; set aside.
  2. Add onion to fat in pan, and cook until softened, 4 to 5 minutes. Add kale; cook until soft, 3 to 4 minutes.
  3. Add squash puree and 3 cups water (or more if necessary to achieve desired consistency); bring just to a boil. Season generously with salt and pepper. Serve, garnished with reserved bacon.

Getting out and walking around is a great way to keep up with what is going on around us, as well as getting great exercise daily.  It definitely doesn't hurt when there is so much beauty around to see too!

Roy, you have captured some gorgeous photos in the Kentlands.  Our overnight temps are now in the 50's, so flowers are dwindling.
