Hurricane Florence Preparations in Kentlands

Hurricane Florence Preparations in Kentlands

This is a Kentlands Citizens Assembly Announcement

As Hurricane Florence approaches the east coast, we are asking Kentlands residents to begin to prepare for a worst case scenario: high winds, rising water and power outages.

Secure Property

The KCA landscapers are cleaning common area storm drains and grates in advance of the predicted landfall on Friday morning and picking up debris in the community. We've secured loose items around the Clubhouse that may be impacted by high winds and suggest that residents do the same. Please put outdoor furniture, grills, trash cans, etc. in your garage or in the instance of basketball hoops, lay them down. Take in flags, potted plants, umbrellas, etc that could become flying projectiles.

Trash

Trash pick up will take place on Friday as scheduled, the trash removal company will start promptly at 7:00 am in order to finish as early as possible. Please place your cans out the night before but no later than 7:00 am Friday morning. Please plan to pull in the cans as early as possible after they have been emptied.
Residents should fill their car with gas, charge their cell phones and have a supply of water and batteries on hand. We do not anticipate any closures at the Clubhouse although a power outage would impact the use of the fitness equipment.

Landscaping

The landscapers are prepared to answer calls for service over the weekend for downed trees in common areas. Please alert the General Manager, via e-mail if possible, about downed trees on the property at GeneralManager@KentlandsUSA.com  or call the Clubhouse at 301-948-2071. Street trees are the responsibility of the City of Gaithersburg and trees on private property are the responsibility of the individual property owner.

Contacts

Contacts for other property issues would be:
Emergency after hour calls for Gaithersburg Public Works can be routed through the Gaithersburg Police Department non-emergency number, 301-258-6400.

Today, FEMA deployed MCFRS Maryland Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue team to SC to assist with relief efforts in advance of Hurricane Florence. Montgomery County is proud to share our public safety resources with those expected to be most in need. See:

Hi Roy... your first-responders will have their work cut out for them, I'm sure. Someone asked me the other day if we were moving west... it'll be worse west of Charlotte than in Charlotte and this map shows it.

Good morning Roy.  I hope that Florence won't be affecting your area very much.

Roy Kelley - To think communities didn't do what your area is doing 20 years or more ago. You're doing your community a service by providing this timely information.

May you all be safe.

Most everyone thinks to keep a supply of food & water in their emergency kits, along with clothes, personal items, medicine & pet supplies. But it's also important to stash some cash in your kit. The Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security reminds us why.
