Daniel Pluznik, MD


Dr. Pluznik grew up in the Washington D.C. area.  After graduating from the University of Maryland with honors, he attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine where he was a member of the AOA honor society, graduating in 1995.  During college and medical school he was involved in research at the National Institutes of Health and Johns Hopkins Hospital.  After completing a medical internship at Mercy Hospital and an ophthalmology residency at Washington Hospital Center in D.C. he joined the practice in 1999.  In addition Dr. Pluznik serves as a clinical instructor at the Washington Hospital Center/ Georgetown University department of ophthalmology, where he trains residents in cataract surgery.

Dr. Pluznik specializes in advanced cataract surgery using the latest technology premium astigmatic and multifocal intra-ocular lenses.  He was one of the first to implant the Restor multifocal lens in the Washington area in 2005 and is one of only a few surgeons utilizing the LenSx laser cataract platform in the mid-atlantic area. In addition to extensive experience with advanced cataract surgery he performs glaucoma surgery and cosmetic and functional eyelid surgery, as well as comprehensive medical care of the eye. He has been named Washingtonian Magazine “Top Docs” and was featured in the Washington Postin September of 2012.

Maxwell Helfgott, MD


Dr. Maxwell Helfgott, a native Washingtonian, received a BA from Grinnell College and his medical degree from George Washington University.  After internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital in NYC, he completed his ophthalmology residency and chief residency at Washington Hospital Center in 1976.

He has since been in private practice specializing in anterior segment eye surgery including cataract, cornea, glaucoma, and refractive surgery.

Dr. Helfgott served as chairman of Department of Ophthalmology at Washington Hospital Center from 1995 to 2010, and has been recognized on multiple occasions as a Top Doctor by Washingtonian Magazine.
