Gaithersburg Students Need School Supplies

Gaithersburg Students Need School Supplies

This is a City of Gaithersburg announcement.

Help support local students and educators by donating new school supplies. Among the most needed items are glue sticks, crayons, index cards, Post-it notes, highlighters, card stock, and more. A complete list is available here. The City's Educational Enrichment Committee is working with the Gaithersburg Youth Club, the Student Union and other local businesses and organizations to make sure the new school year gets off to the right start. New items can be dropped off to the Olde Towne Youth Center or the Activity Center at Bohrer Park through August 31.

Good morning, Roy Kelley there are so many school systems across the country that do not have the funds in their budget to provide the necessities needed to educate children...

HI Roy Kelley - I guess this is a universal thing. When my kids were young, we would hear this at the open houses for the school. It is a shame that it still is an issue.

No kids should lack the supplies necessary for their education.  I hope that those in need will be helped.

It is crazy that some kids do not have the funds to be educated.  I am glad that people are responding to this need.  A

I'm so happy to see support for those children who can't afford the cost of basic supplies needed at school. :(

I wish the government would take an interest in public schools and make sure that the education was as good as it could be in the USA.

Roy, I hope that lots of donations are received. It always makes me sad to see children in need of basic supplies.

School supplies aren't cheap and those families with several children feel the pinch. This is a good endeavor to help out.

Roy, I feel so sad reading this post, as a young kid I remember when we were on vacation in Communist Yugoslavia now 13 different countries, kids stood on the road and they were offering fresh figs, fresh tropical fruit to people driving by and when my parents asked what they wanted for it they said school supplies... here it is 50 + years later I am reading that in our own country we can not take care of kids with school supplies we have come a long way in the wrong direction....Endre
