Maryland Blogger: Wishing for ActiveRain Changes

Wishing for ActiveRain Changes

Wishing for ActiveRain Changes

Have you given some thought to the changes you would make if you managed ActiveRain? I sure would make a lot of changes.

One of the first changes I would make would be to eliminate the points that members receive for commenting on their own blog posts. I would much prefer to encourage blogger members to comment on the blog posts of others.

What do you think?

Roy,

We disagree, the points are what differentiates AR from everyone else in the pack...and one should never ever mess with what works.  One can update and better it, but not get rid of it.  Companies that get rid of their heritage get lost.  A

I didn't even realize you get points for commenting on your own post.  However, I have seen people post comments on their own posts in response to other's comments.  Maybe they should simply reward commenting on a comment on your page.

Points are already awarded for commenting on others' posts.  Do you think these should be worth more points?

I didn't know that you got points for that Roy Kelley even though I do comment on others comments to my blog BUT what I think should be eliminated is points for liking your own posts and I've seen some of the heavy hitters do that.

I have never commented on my own post so I didn't know I could get points.

Do we get points for commenting on our own posts?  I have responded to comments of others on my posts, but I don't think we get points for that!

Myrl Jeffcoat

Comment on some of your old blogs and watch your points total increase.

Roy Kelley - You're right, we get six points for each comment that we leave on our own blog.  I did not know that!  If someone is really points focused however, they get more points (25) for commenting on the posts of others!

I hadn't thought about that Roy Kelley but it is an interesting thought.  I do agree with Bob "RealMan" Timm comment as "liking" one's own comment(s) for points seems wrong.

Interesting Roy about the point system,   I guess I do not have a opinion today on this.  Maybe down the road.

Roy, you are so wrong I can not even tell you in a small comment as this one... Active Rain is what it is today because the Founders figured out that Realtors are a competitive bunch hence they created the point system.... once you got to be in the three  million point range your attitude changed.... it reminds me of the Captains of Industry, they spent most of their lives amassing their fortunes and then tried to give it way the rest of their lives... Not even aware of getting points for our own comments...but I do think it encourages "conversation" and that is the point.

Hi Roy.  Works for me.  Not sure if the powers that be want to do this or not.

DYK? Projects in Gaithersburgprojects

Ever wonder what that construction project is down the street? Curious about the status of a pending development? Just want to be "in the know" about all things Gaithersburg? Check out the interactive "Projects" map on the City's website. Zoom in to the area you'd like to explore, and then hover over a highlighted parcel to see a quick summary. From there, click on the link for details, which could include annexation agreements, exhibits, upcoming meeting notices, and more.

Fishing in Gaithersburgfishing
Attention anglers of all ages - cast your line and try to catch (and perhaps release) fish in a local public lake or pond. With a State of Maryland non-tidal fishing license, required for those over the age of 16, you're welcome to fish at the two ponds at Bohrer Park and at Lakes Inspiration and Nirvana in the Kentlands area(note that fishing is not allowed at Lake Placid in front of the Montgomery County Services building along Rt. 28). You can also fish from shore or by boat at nearby Seneca Creek State Park. There you'll find largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, tiger muskie and crappie. Fish on!

Based on data collected by Livability.com, Gaithersburg ranked #6 in a 2018 listing of Best Cities for STEM Workers. In its description of Gaithersburg, Livability.com noted that one in every five employees in the City works in a STEM-related profession, enjoying a median income of $90,000. Read more here.
