Maryland Blogger: "Silent" Heart Attacks

"Silent" Heart Attacks

"You can have a heart attack and not even know it. A silent heart attack, known as a silent myocardial infarction (SMI), accounts for 45% of heart attacks and strike men more than women." - Harvard Medical School

I knew nothing about silent heart attacks until I received the results of my nuclear cardiac stress test at John Hopkins Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. The physician told me that it appears that my heart has a scar from a silent heart attack and told me that I needed to schedule an appointment with my cardiologist.

The danger of “silent” heart attacks

Good morning, Roy Kelley I think I need to have a conversation with Chef Dolores.... your eating habits need to change and you MUST move around....a 30 minute walk to start with.... early morning is good... get that blood flowing and heart pumping right "off the blocks" everyday.... this was a warning and a Blessing.... don't ignore it,'re smarter than that....

Please take Barbara's advice. It is scary to think you had a silent heart attack and have no idea when it happened.

How frightening, Roy. I am familiar with this syndrome as I volunteered with the AHA here in Charlotte many years ago. Be sure to take care of yourself going forward now that you know.

I have to agree with the preaching that Barbara Todaro gave you up there in comment #1.  I suspect we need to see many new pictures taken on future photo walks!

Roy- at least now you know and there will be many here and in your area who will be waiting to hear what your cardiologist says. My uncle was in his doctor's office having an EKG and a heart attack at the same time. Thankfully they caught it. You take care of yourself.  I am so glad that Barbara Todaro reblogged this!
