Summertime Burglaries
This notice was provided by Kim Jones at the Montgomery County, Maryland Police Department.
Lots of residents travel during the summer months. Burglaries occur every day in Montgomery County, a lot of the time it is when homeowners are away. We want to solve them. We also want to disrupt them. Here are some things you can do in your community to help all of us:
- Let your neighbor know you will be away so they can recognize suspicious activity around your house
- Keep the AC cycling. As an investigator I interrogated several burglars who would simply look for houses with no AC running on 90 degree days
- Put your house interior lights on a timer
- Put a radio or TV on a timer in your house so that it produces sounds at various times
- Put motion sensors on your exterior lights
- Halt your mail and newspapers while you are away
- Keep a car(s) in your driveway
- If you see something suspicious, call MCP 301-279-8000, get a description, get a vehicle tag number. Little tips lead to big arrests.
These are some simple things you can do. If you want to read some more, here is a link to further information on Home Advisor- https://www.homeadvisor.com/r/securing-your-home-from-burglary/

I hope you are looking forward to a great summer!

That streak of light you saw crossing the street were very excited students heading home - today is the last day of school. Please be careful as more children will be out and about during the summer months.
Although we are in the country we as neighors keep watch on each other
Great tips, Roy. And if people would stop blabbing about their movements on social media, it would help alot. Great tulip... loved it.
Great tips and advice Roy. We all have to be vigilant
I agree with what Nina Hollander said...quit talking about where you're going and where you are on social media!
Great tips and reminders Roy Kelley to help keep homes burglar free while you are away!
Thank you for sharing these great tips. I will share these with others
Thanks, Roy. These are great tips for anyone that will be leaving their homes unoccupied while vacationing.
Those are great tips, Roy. I also suggest those who use social media, not announce vacations, or other times they will be away on those platforms.
Hello Roy, all good suggestions when thinking of going on vacation. I remembr in my young days I would hav a houe sitter, much eacher plus take care of the dogs and the fish.
These are good tips for staying burglary-free.
Much tooo easy to live the windows open...and screen door unlocked...and the consequences disasterous !
Good morning Roy. A sad truth but this is a great and specific post that would help to offset the burglaries. Gorgeous photo and flower.
The AC tip is a new one for me - not one I've heard before but makes a lot of sense.
Thank you very much for your comments. It is always good to hear from you.
