Gaithersburg Farmers Markets

Gaithersburg Farmers Markets

The City of Gaithersburg's two Farmers Markets start their summer seasons this week. They both feature a wide array of locally grown produce, with the variety changing weekly as crops reach maturity. On occasion, with the assortment changing regularly, you may also find meats, eggs, baked goods, cider and other unique beverages, honey, jams and jellies, granola, natural soaps, and fresh herbs, plants and flowers.

The Main Street Farmers & Artists Market is open year round, Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Pavilion at 301 Main Street, one block off of Kentlands Boulevard in Kentlands. Its robust summer version starts up on May 5. Main Street Farmers are joined by local artists and craftspeople with unique handcrafted items. You'll also find purveyors of fresh prepared foods, potted plants and cut flowers.

The Fulks Corner Farmers Market is open Thursdays, May 3 through November 15, from 12:30 to 6 p.m. It's located at the corner of Route 355 and Fulks Corner Avenue in Olde Towne. Fruits, vegetables, breads, teas, herb and spice blends, beef, eggs, beef jerky, and dog treats are for sale as they become available. This market does not feature artists and crafters.

I love going to the different Farmers Market areas and I have been to many. Some are truly worth going to and be amazed at the products they offer and even the areas they are in. Some are not but I applaud them for at least trying.

Good morning, Roy... it's Farmers Market season in Charlotte area, as well, and we are awash in them. The difficulty is deciding which one to go to.

Tis the season for fresh fruits and berries - and all the other goodies available at the local Farmers Markets.  Good to hear they are opening up for the year in Gaithersburg.

So special to hear of your Farmers Markets, Roy.  I absolutely feel I am in magic land when I visit a farmers market... so many many menus come to mind.

Oh, this is my favorite time of the year - I LOVE visiting the local farmers markets. Here, due to the incredibly cold winter we had, they are a bit slow to open. The two main ones are opened and a couple of the smaller ones but, the bulk of them are due to open this weekend.

The one by my house is supposed to open this weekend so, I'm really looking forward to stopping in every chance I get!

Happy Friday, Roy!
