George Washington's River Farm, Alexandria, VA

All of us are familiar with the residence of George Washington at Mount Vernon in northern Virginia. Some may not be familiar with George Washington's River Farm on the Potomac River in Alexandria, Virginia. Click on the link for an interesting history lesson.

25 acres of River Farm and the mansion overlooking the Potomac River is now the home of the American Horticultural Society.

The American Horticultural Society's  Spring Garden Market at River Farm is scheduled for Friday, April 13, 2018 and Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Members park free and there is a $10 parking fee for non members.

This is a good time to visit River Farm and to purchase some plants for your spring garden. The gardens will be blooming and you will also have the opportunity to shop for garden themed book, tools and garden accessories. Click on the links to learn more.

Amazing, Roy... that as close as I've lived to Alexandria and how often I've been there, I've never been to River Farm or even heard of it till now.

This is a new one for me, but seems that this time of the year should be an attractive one at River Farm.

Roy, this sounds like it would be very popular, and if closer, I would be there!

You definitely taught me something in this post, Roy Kelley ... as I was NOT aware of this additional farm owned by our President.  Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge ...

I wish I could buy some plants there and bring home. 12 hours is too far away.

I was only in your area one time - Virginia, Maryland, DC...  I still remember going around 'the Belt" (?) and seeing the impressive Potomac River. I remember the blossoming cherry trees... Beautiful!!  Thank you for sharing the history on George Washington and the River Farm.
