Plan to Visit George Washington's Mount Vernon

If you are going to be in the area of Washington, DC for the National Cherry Blossom Festival, plan to take some extra time and visit the nearby home of George Washington at Mount Vernon. Click on the link to reach the website for all of the information you will need to plan your visit.

Mount Vernon was the plantation house of George Washington, the first President of the United States, and his wife, Martha Dandridge Custis Washington. The estate is situated on the banks of the Potomac River in Fairfax County, Virginia, near Alexandria, across from Prince George's County, Maryland. The Washington family had owned land in the area since the time of Washington's great-grandfather in 1674. In 1739 they embarked on an expansion of the estate that continued under George Washington, who came into possession of the estate in 1754, but did not become its sole owner until 1761.

Been there, Roy... such a beautiful place! And there's nothing so beautiful as the DC area during Cherry Blossom season.

It is on my agenda to visit Mt. Vernon.  I remember how ecstatic both my parents were after their visit there.  Thanns for the reminder.  A

Roy Kelley, this was a remarkable and unbelievable post.  OMG!  I did click on the link Mount Vernon  website and was delighted to find a virtual tour of the home of the Washington's.   Roy, thank you so very much...it was a wonderful experience.  I just hope that others who read your post and haven't visited Mount Vernon realize  all the information and history in that little link.  It could take hours viewing and for those of us not close enough to visit Mount Vernon, it is a true gift.  Thank you once again, Roy.  I believe that little link - Mount Vernon -  has a life of its own and another post from you.  I love it.
