Winterthur Museum Collection

Yuletide at Winterthur is the current theme for visitors at Winterthur in Wilmington, Delaware.  The mansion is beautiful and the tours change during the year so there are always new things to see.  Travelers come from all over the world to see the museum collection.

“Winterthur’s unparalleled collection of nearly 90,000 objects features decorative and fine arts made or used in America from 1630 to 1860. The collection is organized in several main categories— ceramicsglassfurnituremetalworkpaintings and prints, and textiles and needlework. Famous for its American artwork, the collection is amplified with objects from other regions of the world, illustrating the active role America played in the international market.

Winterthur’s founder, Henry Francis du Pont, formed the original collection for the museum and added to it until his death in 1969. Winterthur curators continue to fill gaps in the collection and to build upon its strengths. Acquisition choices are based, in part, upon the museum’s collecting policy.”  - Winterthur

The staircase in the Winterthur museum is amazing. Finding that kind of craftsmanship in today's homes is rare.

Hi Roy -- while I lived on the East Coast for a couple of years, I never took the opportunity to visit The Winterthur --- I have heard it's a wonderful place and your photos certainly show that to be true.

How wonderful, Roy. You and Dolores have a wide variety of interests and it makes you two "interesting people." This would be quite the place to see at some point. Thanks for sharing. D

Good evening Roy - Winterthur is a wonderful museum of decorative fabric.  When I worked for the high end Fabric house Brunschwig & Fils we documented and sold many of their reproductions.

Body-Worn Camera Programcamera
Selected officers within the Gaithersburg Police Department began using body-worn cameras in late October. The remaining officers will be outfitted in phases by the end of January, 2018. Body-worn cameras allow the Department to capture both audio and video interactions between officers and individuals. The cameras can help document police and citizen behavior and resolve citizen complaints, and can be used as evidence in criminal proceedings and civil litigation. Guidelines and instructions for officer use of body-worn cameras is in General Order 619.4. The Order and additional background information can be found here.
