Lantana plants are common in Kentlands, our home community within the City of Gaithersburg, Maryland. The flowers are small so you need to focus carefully and have steady hands to get close up photographs.

Subhash Sharma  "These lovely Lantanas from the family of more than 150 members exist as a mix of red, orange, yellow, or blue and white florets. Other colours exist as new varieties are being selected. The flowers also change colour as they mature, resulting in inflorescences that are two- or three-coloured. Apart from their looks they are also planted to attract honey bees, & butterflies. The edibility of Lantana berries is contested. Some experts claim Lantana berries are edible when ripe although in common with many fruit are mildly poisonous if eaten while still green. Other experts claim that experimental research indicates that both unripe and ripe Lantana berries are potentially lethal, despite claims by others that ripe berries are not poisonous. Extracts of Lantana camara may be used for protection of cabbage against the aphid Lipaphis erysimi."

Mr. Sharma is a Facebook friend from India. He now lives in Dublin, Ireland and frequently comments on my photographs as I post them on Facebook.

We love lantana here in our garden because we try to make sure that the bees and butterflies have something they love, too.  Beautiful photo.

These are very common in Clarksville, too and near our Destin FL home. A friend tells me they are considered weeds in Cuba.

Have a good week.

My Lantanas are just beginning to bloom for the season.  I have none in that color however.  Mine are purple.
