Snow Removal Announcement for Kentlands Residents

This is an announcement from the Kentlands Citizens Assembly.

For out of the area readers, Kentlands is our home community within the City of Gaithersburg in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland. We are under a major winter storm watch.

In anticipation of a significant amount of snow being forecast for the weekend, the Kentlands Citizens Assembly, as well as the City of Gaithersburg is urging residents to make preparations now for the coming weather event.

The KCA's snow removal provider will begin bringing numerous pieces of equipment onto the property Thursday evening. They will use the Clubhouse parking lot as a staging area, so please do not plan to use the parking lot as an alternative parking area. There will be multiple crews and they are prepared to work non-stop for the first 24 hours if necessary. Should the snowfall extend past that period, they will begin to rotate their personnel out for breaks.

The snow removal team is familiar with the Kentlands and there is a plan for the sequence of snow removal on the property. The contractor will knock down windrows to the entrances of garages to allow homeowners to access the mews. They cannot respond to individual requests, so we ask for everyone's patience as they will get to every mews and common area walkway, but not every area can be "first". Residents are responsible for clearing all sidewalks abutting their property.

It is the intent to keep the Clubhouse open this weekend, if possible. Friday evening the Clubhouse is open until 8 pm,Saturday and Sunday9 am - 5 pm. Please call to confirm that the facilities are open before venturing out, 301-948-2071.

Beth Brittingham, the General Manager of the Kentlands Citizens Assembly, will be in touch with staff and vendors over the weekend and will be monitoring her messages. If you need to leave one, call the Clubhouse number and ask for extension 106 or e-mail her at For condominium issues contact your respective management company, that information can be found, under the tab "Condo Associations".

Mandatory removal of cars from snow emergency routes will be in effect should the Gaithersburg City Manager issue a snow emergency. Snow emergency information will be posted on the City's website at Please monitor the website for information on snow removal from city streets, closing of City facilities, cancellation of City events, etc.

If you have a life-threatening emergency, this includes downed electric wires, call 911. All other non-emergency police-related calls dial 301-279-8000. Please do not call the Clubhouse to report crimes, emergencies, power outages, etc.

We had some snow and ice last night and there were accidents on all of the major roadways because they had not been prepared. You can imagine the impact of the incoming blizzard in an area that can't cope with an inch or two of snow.

It's nice that they are prepared for what is to come and hopefully this makes it a lot more bearable for everyone.

We are now in the snow removal and recovery stage after the blizzard in Maryland. The snow removal equipment in the area is not adequate for the clearance challenges

It is sometimes a good practice to revisit old blogs and reblogs. We might even find some good ideas for current posts.
