GIS Day in Gaithersburg

GIS Day in Gaithersburg

Learn how Geographic Information Systems impact everyday life at a series of discussions and activities celebrating GIS Day. More than just a mapping application, the City's GIS database contains more than 700 layers of data that elected officials and staff can use to learn about things like the availability of affordable housing, impervious surface coverage, most effective snow plow routes, access to social services, and much more.

Events during the week of November 15 include globe making and informative talks at the Community Museum, a proclamation and mapping demonstration at a Mayor and City Council Meeting, and GIS Day activities with local second graders, where they'll use maps to see where their Thanksgiving dinner comes from. Explore all the activities here.

This is a City of Gaithersburg announcement.

I've seen the GIS capability of my local country fire departments.  Very impressive.

This is really interesting Roy. The community of Gaithersburg is very organized.

Thanks for sharing, Roy.  This is important information for community workers especially fire and rescue squads, police, etc.  There have been some great advancements in GIS.  Sounds like a great event.
