Kentlands Photowalk: Stokes' Aster, Stokesia laevis IMG 4483

Stokes' Aster, Stokesia laevis, is a flower garden selection that grows well in Kentlands, our home community within the City of Gaithersburg in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland.

Kentlands, a very walkable planned neo-traditional community, is one of the favorites for families moving to the Metro Area of Washington, DC. The Ride On bus system connects Kentlands with the Metro train service that serves the region.

Subhash Sharma  This beautiful looking Stokesia laevis or Stokes' aster and stokesia flower is native to the southeastern United States appear in the summer and is purple, blue, or white in nature. The genus is named after Jonathan Stokes (1755–1831), English botanist and physician. Other members of this genus include the cornflower blue 'Klaus Jelitto', 'Colorwheel', which is white, turning purple over time, and 'Blue Danube', which has a blue flower head with a white center.# Some unusual plants which include the pink-flowered 'Rosea' and yellow-flowered 'Mary Gregory' also belong to this genus. Some plants of this genus (Vernonia), contains vernolic acid, a vegetable oil with commercial applications.

Mr. Sharma is a Facebook friend from India. He now lives in Ireland and frequently comments on my photographs.

We have a chilly Monday morning in Maryland. We have not yet had the hard frost that will end the season for our still blooming dahlias.

Have an outstanding week.
