Kentlands Photowalk: Balloon Flower IMG 4584

Kentlands is a planned neo-traditional community located within the City of Gaithersburg in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland 20878. One of the benefits of this walkable community is that many of the home owners have flowers that are fun to photograph. My photowalk photographs are always taken from public sidewalks and walkways.

If you have friends or clients who are moving to the Metro Area of Washington, DC, suggest Kentlands for their consideration as a location for their home purchase.

Subhash Sharma This fresh looking blue balloon flower (Platycodon grandiflorus) also known as Korean, Chinese and Japanese bellflower or balloon flower (referring to the balloon-shaped flower buds). It is native to East Asia (China, Korea, Japan and East Siberia).Apart from its blue colour it also has the varieties of white, pink and purple hues although the main variety found in Korea is white where the plant is known as doraji and its root, either dried or fresh, is a popular ingredient in salads and traditional cuisine. Platycodon grandiflorus is also used in traditional Chinese medicine. Its name of Platycodon grandiflorus has a Greek origin meaning a broad bell.

Mr. Sharma is a Facebook friend from India. He currently lives in Ireland and frequently comments on my photographs as I post them on Facebook.

Hi Roy.  You continually surprise me with one more beautiful flower after another.  Most of which I have never seen before.

the blue of that flower is amazing!  And yes- if I had someone moving to the DC area, we frequently suggest the Kentlands. I love it there!

Hi Roy.  Interesting.  Your Indian friend who lives in Ireland sends you a photo of a flower with a name originating in Greece.  Did I get that right?

Good morning, Roy -- I always enjoy it when I stop by and see the discoveries you make on your photowalk tours.  You do such a great job at showcasing the beauty that can be found in each of neighborhoods if we only take a moment to stop, smell and take a photo.   Have a great Sunday.
