16th Annual Peach Festival in Carroll County, Maryland

16th Annual Peach Festival in Carroll County, Maryland

The Maryland peaches are wonderful this summer.  Saturday, August 11, is date for the Annual Peach Festival at the Carroll County Farmers Market.  The Peach Festival is held in conjunction with the Brain Injury Association's Eat-A-Peach Bike Ride.  Extended hours for this special event are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  This is the biggest event for the summer season at the Farmers Market.

Live music entertainment will be provided by the General Store Band.  Free peach treats and recipes will be provided by market vendors.  You will want to purchase a fresh peach sundae made with Baugher's peaches and ice cream.

Dolores and I love the fruit pies that are available for purchase.  Slice the pies and freeze the slices for many days of dessert enjoyment.  Vendors will offer all kinds of peach products as well as a variety fruits, vegetables and handmade crafts.

The cafeteria will be open during market hours for breakfast and lunch.

The Carroll County Farmers Market is held in Westminster, Maryland at the Agricultural Center on Smith Avenue.  Follow the signs to "Ag Center".  There is no charge for admission or parking.

We represent home buyers and sellers as their exclusive agents in the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC.

Roy,  the Colorado peaches are in season now and boy are they delicious.  They grow them on the Western slope near Grand Junction and we just love them.  I've been known to do some canning from time to time.  Might just have to break out the jars again this year.

Maryland Perfect Peach Pie Recipe

Pastry for Nine Inch Pie  (from scratch or ready made)

5 cups peeled and sliced peaches (about 2 ½ lbs.)

1 tsp. lemon juice

½ cup sugar

¼ all-purpose  flour

¼ tsp. cinnamon

1 Tbsp. unsalted butter

Heat oven to 425 degrees.  Prepare pastry or use ready  made  crust such as Pillsbury.

Mix peaches and lemon juice. Stir together sugar, flour and cinnamon. Mix with the peaches.

Pour into pastry-lined pie pan. Dot with   butter.  Cover with full or lattice crust. Cover edge with 2-3 inch strip of aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning.

Remove foil last 15 minutes of baking.

Bake 35 to 45 minutes, or until crust is brown and filling begins to bubble. Serve warm or cold.

Dolores baked this pie using fresh Maryland peaches and it was wonderful.

Hi Roy,

Your post sounds delicious, especially your recipe for the Perfect Peach Pie! It's times like this when it's good for everyone to celebrate and enjoy the fruits of labor with one another.

All peaches must be good because I never heard anyone complain of one bad apple.... err I mean, one bad peach.

I love to hear about your walk-abouts to interesting places with Dolores. This one is a real peach!!!

Fruit that ripens on the vine/tree is so much better than the stuff from a regular store. They have to pick them so early and then they 'ripen' in the trucks. A lot of the flavor is missing.

Dolores and I spent the morning at the Peach Festival.  The best treat for me was a Peach Sundae with raspberry ice cream.  Life is good!
