One of the benefits of living in Montgomery County, Maryland is that we are in the suburbs of Washington, DC.   We are close to many historic places to visit and can drive in to visit the many museums in the District.  These are some of the quality of life features that bring employment centers to our area.

Dolores and I visited the Dumbarton Oaks Museum on Saturday, January 28, 2012 for a lecture on Body Movement and Adornment in the Ancient Andes, by Brenda Femenias and the exhibit Lasting Impressions: Body Art in The Ancient Americas.  Piercing, tattoos, scarification and reshaped heads were held in high regard in many Pre-Columbian cultures.  These body transformations were thought to make the body strong, beautiful and powerful.  The exhibit provides some ideas of thousands of years of body art in ancient Americas.

Admission to the beautiful Dumbarton Oaks Museum is free and nearby on street parking is free.  In the spring, summer and early fall, also take time to visit the beautiful Dumbarton Oaks Gardens.

Take a look at my Dumbarton Oaks Photographs for a sampling of the current exhibit.  These photographs are also available on Flickr and in my Facebook photo albums.

Be sure to have your camera in hand to capture the special moments when your are out and about your community or during your travels.  Wintertime is a good time to visit museums as a very pleasant departure from the pressures of business.

Roy, You and Dolores do live in a wonderful location.  DC has so much to offer in regards to history and history being made.  We venture down there once in a while and take in the sights.  So much to see!

Thanks for the photos.

Roy, can you just imagine what it took to make those statues?  Nothing but stones and wood to do the carvings.  That's amazing to me.  I love looking at artifacts and old buildings and imaging that.

Boy Roy, you know all the great places to go to for interesting history.  If ever I get back there, I will be looking to you for some suggestions of where to go.

Roy~You do such a great job promoting local events with your posts, I would think travel agents should start using your posts. I know if I ever came to visit that area you would be the first person I would ask what to do and see.

Have an awesome day!

Hi Roy,

Looks like this type of work would have taken a very long time to complete.

I could'nt imagine wanting to something like this today. Even with the tools that are available to me.

Have a great day in Virginia. Great post.
