American Indian & Alaska Native Heritage Month Social Powwow

American Indian & Alaska Native Heritage Month Social Powwow

November 2, 2019

2 - 9 PM
Activity Center at Bohrer Park

The City's Multicultural Affairs Committee has partnered with the Indian Health Service Headquarters Employees Association (EA) to host its 7th American Indian & Alaska Native Heritage Month Social Powwow. The event is free and open to the public.

A Powwow is an all-inclusive social gathering recognizing and celebrating the rich heritage and cultures of American Indians & Alaska Natives. This family-friendly, community event will feature a variety of social activities, including traditional songs and dances, games & food. There will also be a hand drum singing competition with a “winner-take-all” cash prize. American Indian & Alaska Native artisans will be on site selling crafts, jewelry, and other handmade items.

November was first designated as National American Indian & Alaska Native Heritage Month by President George H.W. Bush in 1990. Throughout November, the diversity of American Indian tribes & Alaska Native corporations is celebrated and their place in American history is recognized. A proclamation recognizing the month in Gaithersburg will be issued by the Mayor & City Council at their regular meeting on Monday, October 21, 2019, at City Hall.
