Gaillardia, Blanket Flower, Kentlands Photowalk

Blanket Flowers, Gaillardia, are popular in Kentlands, our home community within the City of Gaithersburg, Maryland. We have them in our home garden. They require little attention and definitely add bright colors to the garden. Click on the link to learn more.

Subhash Sharma  "This beautiful looking Gaillardia and a close relative of the sunflower was named after an M. Gaillard de Charentonneau, an 18th-century French magistrate who was a patron of botany. The common name may refer to the resemblance of the inflorescence to the brightly patterned blankets made by Native Americans and for this reason the flower is also known as the blanket flower."

Mr. Sharma is a Facebook friend who lives in Dublin, Ireland. He frequently comments on my photographs as I post them on Facebook. If you enjoy my photographs, please follow me on Facebook.
