Hosta plants are popular in Kentlands, our home neighborhood within the City of Gaithersburg, Maryland. We have several hosta plants in our garden. They require little attention and can be thinned when you wish to have plants for gifts or to grow in other area. The flowers are small and you need to look closely to for a view like this photograph.

Subhash Sharma  "This fresh looking Hosta flower also known as hostas, plantain lilies (particularly in Britain) and occasionally by the Japanese name giboshi. it’s a small Genus of about 85 members which was named by Austrian botanist Leopold Trattinnick in 1812,in honour of the Austrian botanist Nicholas Thomas Host. In 1817, the generic name Funkia was used by German botanist Kurt Sprengel in honour of Heinrich Funk, a collector of ferns and alpines; this was later used as a common name and can be found in some older literature."

Mr. Sharma is a Facebook friend from India. He now lives in Dublin, Ireland and frequently comments on my photographs as I post them on Facebook.
